ARAT April 2015.

Another rock another tree (ARAT) is an exhibition of hand crafted silver gelatin monochrome photographs of trees and rocks made between 2004 and 2014.

The name of the exhibition was inspired by a comment made by the French  photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson in the early part of the last century.

“The world is is falling to pieces and all Adams and Weston Photograph is rocks and trees”

Most of the images in this exhibition were made on day trips or longer field trip to country NSW and capture the form and texture of rocks and celebrate the life of the tree.

A lone rock in the shadow of a cliff face bathed in the incoming early morning tide at Billy’s Beach on the NSW south coast.

The photograph “ One Sided” a dead tree found in the small village of Ando is a fine example of the remains of a once vibrant tree that during it’s life would have provided shade and shelter to live stock.

I endeavour to show photographs that are “more than” just rocks and trees.

“To photograph a rock have it look like a rock but be more than a rock”

Edward Weston.
